Blog news: Advertisement on this site?
June 8th, 2008
This is what this is about. Overstretched images of money.
Selling out
Watching the stats for this site, I realized I didn’t quite a lot of viewers, but still a few, and a good amount of them being newcomers. I’ve been thinking about adding ads to the site. However, I don’t want to clutter the view of readers, much less have anything like interstitials or audio ads. In fact, if I could, I’d launch the people making them into the sun.
In any case, the site is certainly not free to host, and I possibly could cover the costs with some ad money. So I’m asking the regulars who feel like commenting if they feel like I should put up ads, and if so, where?
Places I’ve thought about were:
- The sidebar: I’m not too sure about that one, the design is not really made to support that;
- After a post and before the comments: Good way not to annoy most viewers, although those who’ll see the ads will be the regulars. Best time/visit ratio.
- Through a post: Just kidding, that annoys me and I don’t want to implement that.
So yeah, I’ve kept very few places where to put them. Your input is wanted, so leave a comment, suggest new places, tell me not to put any ad, you help me decide.
You could add one ad after in between the first and second post. You could also add on ad per bunch of 10 comments.
I wouldn’t mind those.
Google’s most effective ad box is one of the square shapes, tucked into content (just like on my own site, funnily enough). It might seem intruding but imo it’s not that bad.
Get some pop unders and pay per play audio ads mixed with some interstitials and leaderboards in the middle of posts.
I vote for product placement within your blog entires.
I’d actually go with the sidebar
After a post and before the comments
Seems like a good place so I’m not annoyed and won’t end up killing your dog.
If only I had a dog.
Placing in text is a bit too intrusive for my likings, and also, I’ve got a few images in the text already, most of them floated to the right in a column relatively narrow. It sounds like the most lucrative idea, but harder to implement, and pretty annoying.
I’ll probably go with after the text, before the comments.
I’m wondering who to go to for the ads, too. Amazon seem like they’d be pretty targeted, although google may be faster and less annoying.
Adbrite offers a service to put ads around images, its not that annoying and pays well.
I want ads that offer smilies that talk for my messenegers
